Vene trollimanageril Agata Burdonova, on USA-s kibedad ajad. Tema poiss-sõber Dmitry Fedorov sai töökoha wargaming.net ettevõttesse USA-s, kellega tüdruk koos Ameerikasse läks, aga tüdruk jõudis juba sotsiaalmeedias särada ja asi avalik. Nüüd juba uudis CNN-s

Economist vahendab sotsmeedia uurijate tööd "vale vs tõde" leviku kiiruse kohta. Juttu ka Vene bottidest.
The reason false information does better than the true stuff is simple, say the researchers. Things spread through social networks because they are appealing, not because they are true. One way to make news appealing is to make it novel. Sure enough, when the researchers checked how novel a tweet was (by comparing it, statistically, with other tweets) they found false tweets were significantly more novel than the true ones. Untrue stories were also more likely to inspire emotions such as fear, disgust and surprise, whereas genuine ones provoked anticipation, sadness, joy and trust, leading to the rather depressing conclusion that people prefer to share stories that generate strong negative reactions. Perhaps not coincidentally, fake political news was the most likely to go viral.

The paper also sheds some of the first peer-reviewed light on the impact of “bots”—automated accounts posing as real people. The idea that Russian bots in particular helped sway America’s presidential election has lodged itself firmly in the public consciousness. Yet the paper finds that, on Twitter at least, the presence of bots does not seem to boost the spread of falsehoods relative to truth.

Väga huvitav kokkusattumus, kus Vene trollid ostavad õiges kohas reklaami ja Cambridge Analytics paneb vasakule kümnetes miljonites USA Facebooki kontosid.

The report indicates that Mueller may be homing in on yet another facet of Russia's election interference — its social media influence campaign and targeted political advertising.

It is not surprising that federal investigators have begun to examine the possibility that Russia and the Trump campaign helped each other during the election. Investigators have been looking into whether Russia provided the campaign with voter information stolen by Russian hackers from election databases in several states, and whether the Trump campaign helped Russia target its political ads to specific demographics and voting precincts.

The general counsels for Facebook, Twitter, and Google gave enigmatic replies when asked by the House Intelligence Committee last month whether they had investigated "who was mimicking who" when it came to online ads promoted by both the Trump campaign and Russia during the election.

Facebook said in September that about 25% of the ads purchased by Russians during the election "were geographically targeted," though many analysts have said they find it difficult to believe that foreign entities would have had the kind of granular knowledge of American politics necessary to target specific demographics and voting precincts.

As the upstart voter-profiling company Cambridge Analytica prepared to wade into the 2014 American midterm elections, it had a problem.

The firm had secured a $15 million investment from Robert Mercer, the wealthy Republican donor, and wooed his political adviser, Stephen K. Bannon, with the promise of tools that could identify the personalities of American voters and influence their behavior. But it did not have the data to make its new products work.

So the firm harvested private information from the Facebook profiles of more than 50 million users without their permission, according to former Cambridge employees, associates and documents, making it one of the largest data leaks in the social network’s history. The breach allowed the company to exploit the private social media activity of a huge swath of the American electorate, developing techniques that underpinned its work on President Trump’s campaign in 2016.

Seoses Cambridge Analuticsiga ilmus nüüd välja Lukoili episood.
But Christopher Wylie, who helped found Cambridge Analytica and develop the company’s voter-profiling technology, said Lukoil showed interest in how the company used data to tailor messaging to American voters.

“I remember being super confused,” said Mr. Wylie, who took part in one of the Lukoil meetings.

“I kept asking Alexander, ‘Can you explain to me what they want?’” he said, referring to Mr. Nix. “I don’t understand why Lukoil wants to know about political targeting in America.”

“We’re sending them stuff about political targeting — they then come and ask more about political targeting,” Mr. Wylie said, adding that Lukoil “just didn’t seem to be interested” in how the techniques could be used commercially.

Wired ajakirja intervjuu Facebooki Mark Zuckerbergiga, kus küsitakse Piiteri trollivabriku ja Cambrige Analyticsi seose kohta. MZ ei oska midagi öelda ja lubab auditit.
NT: Got it. We’re learning a lot every day about Cambridge Analytica, and we’re learning what they did. How confident are you that Facebook data didn’t get into the hands of Russian operatives—into the Internet Research Agency, or even into other groups that we may not have found yet?

MZ: I can’t really say that. I hope that we will know that more certainly after we do an audit.
NT: But presumably there’s a second level of analysis you could do, which would be to look at the known stuff from the Internet Research Agency, to look at data signatures from files you know Kogan had, and to see through your own data, not through the audited data, whether there’s a potential that that information was passed to the IRA. Is that investigation something that’s ongoing?

MZ: You know, we’ve certainly looked into the IRA’s ad spending and use in a lot of detail. The data that Kogan’s app got, it wasn’t watermarked in any way. And if he passed along data to Cambridge Analytica that was some kind of derivative data based on personality scores or something, we wouldn’t have known that, or ever seen that data. So it would be hard to do that analysis. But we’re certainly looking into what the IRA did on an ongoing basis.

See viimane on postitus on hea uudis, antud seltsimees on isiklikult juhtinud mitmeid laimukampaaniaid Soome ajakirjanike vastu, see pole kindlasti ta ainus case. Lõpuks on soomlased ka jalad tagumiku alt välja võtnud.

Kus see uudis on?
