I have a question regarding the fighting around Grenadierhöhe/Blaue Bergen at the 2 of August 1944.
I have read in Tiekes book (Tragedy of the Faithful) that during the 2 of August 44, the Russians attacked around Grenadierhöhe and suceeded in breakthing thru at Chundinurk/Hundinurga, but was faught back by II./SS-Pz.Gr.Rgt 24 "Danmark" and Estonians which was attached to II./Danmark - which Estonian Rgt/Btl/Abt did these Estonians belong to? can it be Füs.Btl 20 (Narwa Btl)?

Just daily report for 2.8.1944 from III.SS-Pz.Korps to ArmeeAbt.Narwa.
19.45 Uhr
III.SS-Pz.Korps, Rottenfhr.Crep
1a) Schwerpunkt der fdl. Angriffstätigkeit lag bei 11.I.D. im Raum Putki. 6 Angriffe bis zu Rgts.-Stärke nach starker Feuervorbereitung und Pz.-Unterstützung zum Teil im harten Verlustreichen Nahkampf abgeschlagen. Dabei 2 Feindpanzer vernichtet.
Z.Zt. laufender starker Angriff hat die eigene Truppe in die allgemeine Linie der Rückhaltstellung zurückgedrängt. Vor re. Abschnitt SS G.R.45 wurde schwächerer Feindstosstrupp abgewiesen. Auf Abschnitt Div. Nordland und Brig. Nederland nach ruhigem Verlauf des Vormittags am Nachmittag stärkeres fdl. Gr.W.- und Art.-Störungsfeuer. Seit 15.00 Uhr greift Gegner über Kinderheim von S nach N entlang alter HKL rechte Flanke der Brig.Nederland an. Gegenstoss mit Sturmgeschützunterstützung z.Zt. noch im Gange. Eigene Art. und Werfer unterstützten die Inf. bei der Abwehr der Feindangriffe. Fdl. Schiffsansammlungen Nordausgang Narwabucht.
1b) Schwerpunkt der fdl. Fliegertätigkeit über re. Korpsabchnitt. Fdl. und eigene Nachtschlachtfliegertätigkeit. Eigene Schlachtfliegerangriff auf Schiffsansammlung Nordausgang Narwabucht. 2.Schlachtfliegerangriff auf Putki angesetzt.
9) Klar, gute Sicht, Temp. +22 Grad.

1a) vaenlase ründetegevuse raskuspunkt asus 11.I.D lõigus Putki ümbruses.
Tagasi löödud 6 vaenlase peale tugevat tuleettevalmistust sooritatud rünnakut, ründasid tankide poolt toetatud kuni rügemendisuurused üksused. Osade rünnakute tõrjumisel toimus kaotusterohke lähivõitlus. Hävitati 2 vaenlase tanki. Praegu toimuv rünnak surus meie üksused tagumisele kaitseliinile. SS-G.R.45 paremal tiival nõrk vaenlase löögisalk tagasi löödud. Diviisi Nordland ja brigaadi Nederlandi lõigus peale rahulikku hommikupoolikut alates pealelõunast tugev miinipilduja- ja suurtükiväe segavtuli. Alates kella 15.00-st ründab vaenlane Lastekodumäelt lõunast põhja suunas piki vana peavõitlusliini brigaadi Nederland vasakut tiiba. Vastulöök ründesuurtükkide toetusel on käimas. Meie suurtükivägi ja (werfer - ei tea, kas on mõeldud miinipildujaid või raketiheitjaid, andrus) toetasid jalaväge vaenlase rünnakute tõrjel. Vaenlase laevade grupp Narva lahe põhjasuudme lähistel.

Feindangriff auf linken Flügel Brig. Nederland 21.45 Uhr abgewiesen. Örtlicher Einbruch im sofortigen Gegenstoss mit Stu.Geschützen bereinigt.

In early August 1944, the focal point of the fighting for the Tannenberg Positions centred once again on Grenadier Hill and the village of Hundinurga. On 5th August another Soviet advance force had managed to isolate and threaten the small defensive force that held on to Grenadier Hill. After the wounding of the 'Hill' commander, SS. Hauptsturmführer Bachmeier, the situation became desperate. But this time a very unlikely band of heroes would emerge to save the day. These were the disciplinary cases from all of the III (Germanische) SS-Panzerkorps units who had been organised into SS Bewährungskompanie 103.
In a violent counterattack, SS-Bewährungskompanie 103 managed to throw the Red Army back off Grenadier Hill and with the help of small surviving contingents from 10/ and 11/SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt.24 Danmark and some regimental staff members, were then able to restore contacts between the hill and the garrison at Hundinurga. Hundinurga was now very ably defended by soldiers from 9/ and 7/SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt.23 Norge, and the 20 Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS (estnische Nr 1) .

Paul Maitla awarded with Knightcross about this heroic act, and Hando Ruus the commander of btl "Narva" with Deutches Kreutz im Gold. Estonian brave fighters hold the Sinimäed till the end.

Ive been waiting for Stalhelm to publish the two books about Riipalu and Nugiseks and Im still waiting, do you perhaps know when they will release them?
The book about "Narwa"-btl is quite good. A few years ago I baught the whole photocollection from the man that Richard Landwehr based his book upon.
Sad that no one has released a realy good divisional history book in germ/english on the Estonian division. I have Leo Tammiksaars two books and they are good, the only problem is that I need a translator everytime I want to know anything that is written
