”During the ongoing special forces exercise, new capabilities and weapon systems have been tested to further strengthen the joint operational capability in our immediate area. For the first time, the American long-distance system HIMARS has been fired in Sweden.”

A prerequisite for being able to work together is to practice together. Sweden must be able to both give and receive military or civilian support if needed. It is important to try how it can work in practice. This was tested during the exercise by transporting and firing with a new weapon system for the Armed Forces together with one of our partners.
- Practicing operations with this type of capability gives us more opportunities to jointly take responsibility for security and stability in the Baltic Sea region, says the Swedish Armed Forces' Chief of Operations, Lieutenant General Michael Claesson.
At nine o'clock on Saturday, a Swedish Hercules plane landed on a road base on a cold and windy Gotland. Shortly afterwards, an American Hercules landed on board the long-range artillery system M142 Himars (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System).
Within a few minutes, the system was in place and ready to be activated. Then it was loaded on board again and flew up to northern Sweden for a moment where it included sniping. This is the first time this is being fully practiced.
- It all went extremely well. This weekend's joint exercises between Swedish and American special forces show how far we have come in our cooperation with the USA, concludes Michael Claesson.
