Belgias ka droonid mitmendat ööd järjest sõjaväeosa(de?) kohal

Belgium’s Defense Minister revealed that on Saturday night and again last night, multiple professional drones were spotted flying over the Marche-en-Famenne military base, targeting key areas of the army’s headquarters. Police and intelligence services are investigating.

The minister warned this marks a new kind of security threat for Belgium. He urged for more drone guns and radar detection systems, saying the country has far too few. The issue will be discussed at the next Council of Ministers meeting next week.

“On Saturday evening, guards at Marche-en-Famenne noticed several drones flying over crucial parts of our army brigade headquarters for an extended period of time,” Francken wrote on X. “This was not the work of amateurs, but of skilled drone pilots. Procedures were followed correctly.”

Speaking to VRT NEWS, Francken said that there were four or five drones. During the course of the morning, he was informed that drones had also been spotted above the base last night.

The police and intelligence services are investigating the matter.

The incident is the third recent report of drones near Belgian military sites, following earlier sightings at the Elsenborn camp in the East Cantons, according to the report.

Unknown drones were spotted over the Belgian airbase Kleine-Brogel in the city of Peer, — HLN reports.

The sightings were reported around midnight on Saturday. Police who arrived at the scene found neither drones nor operators. The case has been handed over to the Ministry of Defense and military intelligence.

Drones were also seen over the army base in Leopoldsburg, where a significant part of Belgium’s ground forces are stationed.

Belgium’s Defence Minister Theo Francken said that three large drones were spotted last night above the Kleine Brogel air base, flying at high altitude in what he described as a clear command targeting Kleine Brogel.

He added that a drone jammer was deployed but failed, and police and a helicopter pursued the drones before losing them after several kilometers. Francken thanked security forces and called for urgent CUAS (counter-drone) reinforcements, saying the file is ready for the Council of Ministers.
