The US government is spending $1million of American taxpayer money to fund experiments on dangerous bird flu viruses in collaboration with Chinese scientists.

The research involves infecting ducks and geese with different strains of viruses to make them more infectious, and study the viruses' potential to 'jump into mammalian hosts,' according to research documents.

It is being funded through the US Department of Agriculture and collaborating studies will take place at sites in Georgia, Beijing and Edinburgh in Scotland.

It comes despite similar research being restricted in 2022 and growing concerns that dubious Chinese studies may have started the Covid pandemic.

Let's address the fear porn here.

CWD is a prion disease like Mad Cow. We don't know why it's happening and spreading in deer populations. We have hypotheses but we really don't know yet.

It's been hypothesized that eating CWD meat, particularly neuron connected tissue like near the spinal cord or brain could cause Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans. I assume the two hunters died of that. This quote is stolen from an article, "study is based on an unnamed 72-year-old man who had a “history of consuming meat from a CWD-infected deer population… His friend, who had also eaten venison from the same deer population, recently died of CJD, raising concerns about a potential link between CWD and human prion disease.”"

We don't know for sure but considering what we do know about similar prion diseases it's probable. Wildlife departments across the US have advised hunters to thoroughly inspect the behavior of deer before shooting and inspecting the carcass for any signs of the disease.

Long story short this isn't some new scary revelation if true. It's not creating zombies. Its doing what similar prion diseases do.

Last year, scientists warned of a key mutation that would help supercharge human transmission down the road — the critical “E627K” mutation in the virus’s RNA polymerase PB2 gene. Well, guess what effing appeared in a CDC report for the first time last month in an infected Texas man? That very goddamn E627K mutation! This is mammalian adaptation. This is why WHO is warning we are maybe approaching the brink of human adaptation.

This was precisely my worry last month when I also warned about this key mutation when it was found in the Texas man who got infected. Later studies show that the mutation seemingly arose just in the man.

Notice how much the CDC tried do downplay this E627K mutation when they found it last month. Yet a year ago, the Science article from 2023 warned it was one of the most worrisome mutations for avian flu to acquire for human danger!

Again, the new E627K mutation was specifically “Acquired in the patient”!

Translation—this mutation is NEWLY EVOLVED. It’s not been seen much in birds or cows before. This specific strain with E627K seems to have emerged in the Texas man. This is why we are worried. The virus is evolving and this mutation is being favorably selected (unfortunately)

In terms of potential fatality— while it’s hard to predict what a further mutated bird flu virus can do…. Past H5N1 infections in 254 human cases has been generally very deadly for HALF the identified cases, according to the WHO. Need vigilance.

So in order for #H5N1 avian influenza to fully become a human to human efficient adapted virus… there are still many additional changes needed. See article. But the evolutionary leap is not big the more the virus spreads in animals adjacent to humans.


How fatal is H5N1 avian flu you ask?

WHO global data says: ~50% Case Fatality Ratio. that’s pretty bad. Maybe lower if better testing, but still not something we can ignore.
