Küs.: mida vastas 101-st airborne div. ülem ultimaatumile?
Sündmused:
22.12.1945 Wehrmachti 47 Pz Corp.(45 000 inimest) Ardennites piiras sisse Bastogne linn, mida kaitses USARMY 101-st Airborne div. (11000 inimest)
Kindral Heinrich Von Luttwitz saatis ameerika laagri ultimaatumi, milles nõudis kapituleerimist.
Vastus koosnes ühest sõnast ning see sai pärast ka tuntuks.
Mida siis vastas talle ameerika kindral? Soovitavalt originaalkeeles?

The most famous quote to come out of the battle was from the 101st’s acting commander, Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe, when awakened by an enemy request for his surrender: “Nuts!” (the German interpreter translated McAuliffe’s reply as “Go to hell!”). The Germans were unable to take the town.

According to various accounts from those present, when McAuliffe was told of the German demand for surrender he said "Aww, nuts". At a loss for an official reply, those around him said that his first remark summed the situation up well. The official reply: 'To the German Commander, "Nuts!"' was typed and delivered by Colonel Harper to the German delegation. Harper had to explain the meaning of the word to the Germans. Some sources have suggested that McAuliffe's initial remark was in rather stronger language. In an interview McAuliffe gave in his office in the spring of 1954 to a group of ALOs (Air Liaison Officers), McAuliffe was asked what he really said, and McAuliffe replied he said "shit" to the German delegation.
