Poolakad ehitavad üles oma maakaitseväge
New Territorial Defence forces will be established in Poland early next year under plans outlined by Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz in parliament on Thursday.

MPs are to decide on Friday whether to back the plans.

Macierewicz said that the Territorial Defence Army will enhance and complement the capabilities of the regular military and that it will also teach patriotism and commitment to local communities.

The period of service is planned for one to six years and may be extended. The soldiers will receive a monthly allowance for service, improving their qualifications and readiness for immediate reporting for duty - PLN 500 (EUR 115) for an ordinary soldier and over PLN 600 (EUR 139) for an officer.

The ministry wants the Territorial Defence forces to be nearly 53,000 strong in 2019. It estimates that the cost of establishing and maintaining the forces in 2016-19 will be PLN 3.6 billion (EUR 834 million). (mol/pk)

VIDEO-Saksamaal Hamburgis sildus kaubalaev, millel 600+ konteinerit lahingumoona(ja ka varustust loodetavasti) USA Euroopasse paigutatavatele üksustele
Biggest @USArmy-run shipment of ammo arrives to #Germany in 2+ decades (600+ containers). #US @USArmyEurope
https://twitter.com/M3t4_tr0n/status/795892253889855488
NORDENHAM, Germany - The largest single Army-run shipment of ammunition to Europe in more than two decades, more than 600 shipping containers worth, arrived in Germany Oct. 29.

The Army and Air Force ammunition arrived at the port in Nordenham, Germany, where it was loaded onto trains and shipped to Miesau Army Depot, Germany, for storage and distribution.

"The shipment by itself is special because it's over 620 containers," said Lt. Col. Brad Culligan, commander, 838th Transportation Battalion, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command. "We continue to build up the presence in Europe. This will help with reassuring our allies, along with the common defense of Europe if needed."

Reassuring European allies by increasing the readily available ammunition also improves the readiness of U.S. forces stationed in Europe.

"This is about deterrence," said Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, commanding general, U.S. Army Europe. "We could have 1,000 tanks over here, but if we didn't have the ammunition for them, they would not have any deterrent effect. It's another example of the commitment of the United States to security and stability in Europe."

Culligan, who oversaw the transfer of the cargo from the ship to trains, said the mission required an immense amount of coordination from multiple entities.

"It's a Military Sea Lift Command vessel that is crewed and manned by Military Sea Lift personnel underneath the U.S. Navy," Culligan said. "We are moving Air Force ammunition as well as Army ammunition, so it is truly a joint mission here that is being worked from all levels, from battalion and all the way through the (21st Theater Sustainment Command) and to higher headquarters back in the United States."

Hodges, who was present for the arrival of the first trainload to Miesau, reflected on the joint nature of the endeavor, noting that German support was a key in getting the ammunition where it needed to go.

"The fact that the ammunition came from Nordenham port by rail all the way to Miesau was only possible because our ally, Germany, allowed it to happen," Hodges said. "So it's another way that Germany contributes to deterrence ... by enabling the movement of ammunition and equipment inside Germany for the United States Army."

He also praised the Soldiers, civilians, contractors and German local national employees who made the mission a success.

"I am so impressed with the quality of the workforce out here," Hodges said.

Personnel at the depot began unloading and breaking down the shipment for storage or movement to other locations as it arrived. The Ammunition will later be moved to various locations throughout Europe.

"It's the ultimate theater sustainment," Culligan said. "We're bringing ammunition into the theater to resupply and set the stage for the European theater for any type of exercises or potential future missions that may come about."

Poola naistele korraldatakse armee instruktorite poolt tasuta enesekaitsekursuseid
The Polish defence ministry is launching free nationwide classes for women to learn unarmed combat.

The classes will start at 30 military facilities, running from 19 November until 3 June. Polish army instructors will provide the training.

The techniques will include defensive postures, how to break holds, and guards against kicks, strangulation and assaults with a weapon.

Some Poles see the initiative more as a way for the army to promote its image.

The ministry says it is the first time the military has offered such a nationwide programme. It is open to all Polish women aged 18 or above who are in good health.

A former special forces commander, Roman Polko, told the Dziennik Polski news website that it was not the army's job to teach citizens unarmed combat. He said it could be a way to spot potential recruits for the armed forces. But learning aikido or jujitsu moves "won't win a war," he said.

Another critic, Krakow journalist Marcin Ogdowski, said the lessons "have a propaganda dimension". He said women's self-defence classes should be run by the police, rather than the military.Territorial defence

Launching the programme, Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz said the aim was to teach women "basic fighting techniques and, above all, improve overall physical fitness". "We invite the ladies, there are still places - there are no age limits," he said.

Participants must have their own medical insurance and a letter freeing the defence ministry from any injury claims.

Mr Macierewicz is also setting up a 35,000-strong paramilitary Territorial Defence Force. He described it as a defence against Russian aggression and a way to promote patriotism.

Poland and its Nato neighbours in the Baltic region have voiced alarm about Russia's military assertiveness, especially Russia's role in the Ukraine conflict. They fear encroachments like Russia's March 2014 annexation of Crimea.

They are exploring ways to counter "hybrid" warfare of the kind that led parts of Ukraine to break away and pledge loyalty to Russia.

Soome kindral natuge skeptiline kas artikel 5 töötab:

http://www.delfi.ee/news/paevauudised/v ... d=76251819

„Iga liikmesriik otsustab [sekkumise] seega iseseisvalt,“ selgitas Kiianlinna.

USA soomusbrigaadi üksused ja tehnika asus Euroopa poole teele. 8-sse NATO riiki jõuab jõuab tehnika ja üksused veebruaris.
The 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, has begun its movement to Europe, loading the first trains this week that will send a heavy brigade’s worth of tanks, Bradley fighting vehicles and other equipment overseas in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.

Iron Brigade Soldiers, led by 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment with the help of 4th Sustainment Brigade, began Nov. 7 to stage and load vehicles and containers at the railhead here to kick off operations that ultimately will send more than 2,000 pieces of rolling stock to eight countries in central and eastern Europe.

“A movement of ABCT assets like this from the United States into Europe hasn’t occurred in decades,” said Capt. Kenneth Kloeppel, the rail head officer in charge and a unit movement officer for 1-66 Armor Regt. “It’s huge for this type of brigade effort to unite and lean forward with this mission.”

The full set of ABCT equipment will arrive at the port in Bremerhaven, Germany, in January, and then move by rail, commercial line haul and military convoy to Poland, where 3rd Brigade will consolidate before dispersing units to Germany and across six other countries from Estonia to Bulgaria beginning in February.

The ability to mass and move heavy equipment rapidly will be an integral part of 3rd Brigade’s mission to provide an increased U.S. Army presence across Europe. The 4,000-Soldier ABCT will contribute to and strengthen the NATO Alliance’s deterrence and defense capabilities.

“During our nine-month rotation, we’ll routinely exercise, mass and move throughout the European theater to refine our ability to maneuver an armored force across Alliance member states,” said Warrant Officer Abraham Rosales, 3rd Brigade mobility officer. “The first example of this will be our arrival to Bremerhaven and demonstrating our ability to move all of our equipment to Poland within a couple weeks of the equipment’s arrival to Germany.”

The first leg of this movement — rail operations at Fort Carson — will persist over the next month.

“There are a lot of moving pieces, checks and balances, inspections, etc., to ensure that the mission runs smoothly,” said Kloeppel. “There were a lot of things that took place to get to this point. We performed meticulous equipment maintenance and had inspections at the lowest level all the way to the top. Everything gets accounted for and we label hazardous material accordingly.”

Once the equipment clears final inspection, it is moved onto rail cars.

“It is necessary to have all paperwork for these vehicles done properly so that we can move them onto the rail cars,” said Sgt. 1st Class Freddy Drayton, a motor transport operator and platoon sergeant for Company A, 64th BSB. “The Soldiers are trained and prepared to do their mission up to standard. It’s an opportunity for them to take on leadership roles and gain more experience on a bigger scale because this is a huge mission. I applaud them for being motivated, for knowing what to do, how to do it and executing. None of this happens without them.”

The 4th Sustainment Brigade also is providing vital support, not only at Fort Carson but when the equipment will be transferred from trains to sea vessels at a port in Texas and again when it arrives in Germany.

“We are providing mainly maintenance and recovery as well as fuel support for them before they go overseas,” said Capt. Charles Pearson, a plans officer for 4th SB who has served as a liaison between his brigade and 3rd Brigade’s 64th Brigade Support Battalion.

Kloeppel, of 1-66 Armor Regt., is confident the movement to Europe will go well.

“We have a lot of continuity within the battalion and the brigade,” he said. “We have Soldiers and leaders who have experience with loading equipment on the railhead through previous operations, including when we transported our equipment to the National Training Center (at Fort Irwin, California) a couple months ago and for our deployment last year to the Middle East.”

Rumeenia siis plaanib hankida samuti Boxereid. Plaanitakse välja vahetada 1500 soomukit
Samuti peaks tootmine toimuma Rumeenias kohapeal.

Defence cuts leave the Army with fewer soldiers than the number killed on the first day of the Somme battle.
There were 19,130 in August this year – down from 23,630 five years ago, Ministry of Defence figures reveal.

This is fewer than the 19,240 British soldiers killed on July 1, 1916 – the opening day of the Somme offensive.

The situation has been blamed on budget cuts and a slowdown in recruiting new troops. But the news comes amid concern over Russia's movement of thousands of soldiers towards its border with Estonia, a Nato ally.

Britain has backtracked on plans to send medium-range rockets to Estonia amid concern about how the Kremlin would react.

The deployment of the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS) made headlines last weekend. It was interpreted as a bold response by Nato to Moscow’s decision to move Iskander short-range ballistic missiles to its Kaliningrad enclave on the Baltic Sea between Poland and Lithuania.

However, the official army press release published online last week to announce the move has been withdrawn and rewritten to remove all reference to the missiles.
