The Pentagon ordered another 126 fifth-generation F-35 fighters from Lockheed Martin for $7.8 billion.

Under the previously concluded contract, it is planned to assemble 81 aircraft in the F-35A modification, 26 units of the F-35B and 19 of the F-35C.

The fighters are intended for the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps of the United States, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Japan, Belgium, Denmark and Great Britain.

More than 1 million F-35 spare parts worth at least $85 million have gone missing over at least the last five years, according to a new Government Accountability Office report criticizing the program’s supply tracking.

Auditors said that because the government doesn’t have its own system tracking those parts, officials may not truly know how many spare parts are actually in the global spares pool, where they are, or their total value.

As a result, “the full quantity and value of these [lost] spare parts may be significantly higher” than the 1 million tally determined by the main contractor, Lockheed Martin, the document reads.

And disagreements between Defense Department offices and the main F-35 contractor, Lockheed Martin, over how to categorize missing parts are holding up the government’s effort to create its own reliable system to keep track of the parts, the GAO report states.

In short, the F-35 program can’t know whether contractors are properly managing spares, according to auditors, who have tracked losses going to back to 2018.

In a statement to Defense News, Lockheed Martin said the tally of spare parts listed as lost in the report cover the last two decades of the program.

Poisid on ilmselt kasutanud elektromagnetlainete peegeldumise simuleerimise tarkvara 3D mudelite peal. Sellega on nüüd järgmised nüansid:
1. Need simulaatorid ei ole tegelukult kuigi head - reaalses elus saavutatud peegeldused pidavat olema oluliselt erinevad sellest, mida saadaolevad simulaatorid ennustavad. AFAIK on need simulaatorid mõeldud tegelikult teiseks otstarbeks.

Lockheed Martin announced the production of the 1000th copy of the 5th generation F-35 fighter.

As of early January 2024, the F-35 had logged more than 773,000 flight hours, completed more than 469,000 combat missions, and produced more than 2,280 pilots and 15,400 maintainers across 14 flight services around the world. There are currently 32 bases and 11 ships that host or are capable of hosting the F-35. Currently, 17 countries are participating in the international Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program to develop and acquire the F-35.

However, the thousandth copy of the F-35 and some other new-build vehicles have not yet been delivered to the customer, but are in the parking lot awaiting completion of the latest Technology Refresh 3 (TR-3) hardware and software update, which has encountered problems.

However, there are now more F-35s in service than any other 5th generation fighter jet combined.
