A security checkpoint was set up on the M7 highway, 10 km from the Kamenny Loh-Medininkai border checkpoint on the Belarus-Lithuania border.

Servicemen of the 19th Mechanized Brigade, who arrived in Ashmiany district as part of the combat readiness inspection of the Belarusian Armed Forces, are serving at the checkpoint.
According to the Belarusian MoD, soldiers of the brigade “arrived from the area of concentration and began to perform combat and training tasks.”

The checkpoint is covered by a camouflaged T-72B tank and a BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle.
No searches of vehicles passing through the checkpoint have been reported yet.

Units of the Belarusian Armed Forces will also be redeployed to Pastavy district (16 km from Lithuania).

According to our information, as part of the combat readiness inspection, units of the 19th Mechanized Brigade will be deployed in the vicinity of Padaliany village (Pastavy district, Vitsiebsk region). The settlement is located about 16 kilometers from the Lithuanian border.

The brigade’s units will be stationed in Pastavy district until the second half of April. The redeployment of the units may start in the near future.

Locals recently reported about a helicopter spotted in the vicinity of Pastavy. According to our data, on March 16, a Mi-8 helicopter of the Belarusian Air Force arrived at the former Pastavy airfield from Machulishchy. It’s possible that this is connected with the inspection of the area of drills conduct.

Thus, as part of the combat readiness inspection, units of the 19th Mechanized Brigade will be deployed in two districts of Belarus bordering Lithuania: Ashmiany and Pastavy districts. The choice of locations is not random. The brigade is part of the Northwestern Operational Command, whose task is to cover the Lithuanian and Latvian directions.

We can also expect drills with part of the brigade’s units at the Lepelski and Barysauski training grounds.

We note that the following facilities are located in Pastavy and its vicinity:
• The 3rd regional node of electronic reconnaissance of the 153rd Separate Radio-Technical Brigade (special forces), military unit 74384. Previously, they were looking for operators with knowledge of English and Lithuanian.
• The 1st radio-technical center of the 2289th Separate Radio-Technical Battalion of the 49th Radio-Technical Brigade (military unit 25888).
• The aviation unit of the Belarusian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
• Pastavy border commandant’s office.
• The 1st military hospital of border guard bodies.

The 19th Mechanized Brigade will be staffed to wartime size. The ninth day of the combat readiness inspection of the Belarusian Armed Forces.

• Units of the 1st Separate Mechanized Battalion and the 4th Separate Tank Battalion of the 19th Mechanized Brigade are still stationed in Ashmiany district. The personnel have set up security checkpoints and started to perform combat training tasks.

• As part of the combat readiness inspection, the draft of conscripts from the reserve for additional staffing of the 19th Mechanized Brigade (military unit 71327) was completed. Conscripts were drafted by military commissariats of Vitsiebsk and Minsk regions.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Belarus, about 5000 conscripts were drafted from the reserve. This number is enough to ensure the expansion of the mechanized brigade to the wartime staff number. As we assumed earlier, during the combat readiness inspection, the expansion of the 19th Brigade to the wartime size will be carried out. Conducting these activities is probably one of the key objectives of the inspection.

It’s not specified whether all of the 5000 drafted reservists were assigned to the 19th Mechanized Brigade. Currently, a number of units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are also conducting training sessions with reservists.

Combat training is being conducted with reservists by instructors of the Belarusian Armed Forces trained in Russia. The draft of vehicles from organizations continued, as well as the removal of military equipment from storage.

Brigade tactical drills will be conducted with the 19th Mechanized Brigade on the territory of Pastavy district after the completion of measures to bring the brigade to complete combat readiness.

• The 40th Separate Mechanized Battalion of the 11th Mechanized Brigade (military unit 20170, Slonim) is also involved in the combat readiness inspection. On March 18, the battalion marched from the permanent deployment point to the assigned area in a combined manner to perform combat and training tasks.

• On March 18, it was also reported that as part of the combat readiness inspection, one of the artillery units of the Western Operational Command began to perform the assigned tasks. It was not specified which unit exactly.

Earlier, it was reported that units of the 111th Artillery Brigade and the 841st Artillery Group of the 11th Mechanized Brigade are involved in the combat readiness inspection. We recall that currently artillery units of the Western Operational Command are at field drills.

What’s known about the 19th Mechanized Brigade?

Within the framework of the ongoing combat readiness inspection, the main role is assigned to the 19th Mechanized Brigade. The brigade is part of the Northwestern Operational Command of the Ground Forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces.
The number of personnel of the brigade in 2011 was 670 people, and in 2021 – about 1700 people.

The 19th Mechanized Brigade (military unit 71327) includes the following units:
• the 1st Separate Mechanized Battalion (military unit 14398);
• the 4th Separate Tank Battalion (military unit 22092);
• the 30th Separate Mechanized Battalion (maintained in peacetime size with a minimum number of officers; it’s staffed with reservists);
• the 191st Artillery Group (military unit 14388) – two self-propelled howitzer and rocket artillery divizions, mortar and anti-tank batteries.

In addition to those listed above, the 19th Brigade also includes:
• battalions – mechanized (+1), tank (+1), reconnaissance, signal, engineer-sapper, repair and recovery, material support;
• an anti-aircraft missile artillery divizion;
• companies – medical, guard, NBC protection;
• a UAV detachment (Supercam S350 UAV);
• Lepelski training ground, etc.

The main units of the 19th Brigade are deployed in Zaslonava village. There’s also an artillery group in Barouka village (Lepel district).

The brigade has the following equipment:
• 62 T-72B tanks;
• 219 combat armored vehicles: (129 BMP-2, 20 BRM-1K, 34 MT-LB, 27 9P148 Konkurs self-propelled anti-tank missile systems, 9 9P149 Shturm-S, etc.);
• 14 air defense systems (6 2S6 Tunguska systems, 8 Strela-10 systems);
• 78 artillery systems (18 2S1 Gvozdika 122-mm self-propelled artillery systems, 18 2S3 Akatsiya 152-mm self-propelled howitzers, 18 Grad 122-mm MLRS, 24 120-mm mortars) and others.

Another group of Belarusian military went to Russia for joint training with the Russian Armed Forces.

Apparently, the servicemen of the Belarusian Armed Forces went to the 333rd combat training center of the Western Military District of the Russian Armed Forces (Mulino, Nizhny Novgorod oblast). Earlier, it was planned to create a combat training center for joint training of servicemen of the Ground Forces of the Belarusian and Russian Armed Forces there.

According to our information, on March 18, an Il-76 military transport aircraft (EW-005DE) of the Belarusian Air Force took the servicemen from Machulishchy airfield to Russia. In total, a group of about 60 servicemen of the Belarusian Armed Forces was sent for training.

This is not the first group of servicemen to be trained at the 333rd training center. Previously, servicemen of motorized rifle and tank units of the Belarusian Armed Forces were trained there. The training course usually lasted for about a month. Also, in February 2024, the first group of instructors for the Belarusian Armed Forces was trained at the center.

Training with the T-72B3 tanks began with the arriving soldiers of the Belarusian Armed Forces. From this we can conclude that servicemen of a tank battalion of one of the mechanized brigades of the Western Operational Command are being trained. We note that tank units of the Western Operational Command have not yet been involved in the ongoing combat readiness inspection.

29. märtsil toimus üksuse moodustamise 81. aastapäevale pühendatud üritus. Rügemendi ülem Rjabinin ütles riigimeediale antud kommentaaris, et "rügement on uuesti relvastatud S-400 SAM-süsteemidega. See on ümberrelvastumiseks valmis. Samuti on kavas tugevdada meie rügementi Tor-M2 ja Pantsir-S1 süsteemidega.

Koloneli sõnadest ei selgu, kas rügement on juba S-400-ga uuesti relvastatud või alles valmis uuesti relvastamiseks. S-400 süsteemide üleandmist 377. rügemendile ei ole avalikult teatatud. On teada, et 2023. aastal läks diviisi S-400 komplekt 15. õhutõrjeraketibrigaadi teenistusse.

Mis puutub raketisüsteemi Tor-M2, siis ilmselt rääkis ta MZKT šassii süsteemi ratastega modifikatsioonist – Tor-M2K. Kuid ametnikud ei teatanud Pantsir-S1 raketisüsteemide üleandmisest Valgevene relvajõududele 2024. aastal. Süsteemid ei ole vägede teenistuses, kuigi Pantsiri ostmise plaanidest teatati juba 2021. aastal. Samal ajal , Venemaa relvajõudude 1530. õhutõrjeraketirügemendi Pantsir-S1 SAM süsteemid on paigutatud Ziabrauka ja Mazyri (Bokau) lennuväljadele.

Kui kõik Rjabinini avaldused realiseeruvad, saab 377. rügement Valgevene õhukaitsejõududes uue varustuse poolest kõige paremini varustatud.

377. õhutõrjeraketirügement (sõjaväeüksus 55719) on paigutatud Polatski rajooni. Rügemendi üksused paiknevad kahes sõjaväelinnas:

1) Polatski rajooni Kapavištša küla lähedal sõjaväelinnak nr.1 “Zialionka”;

2) sõjaväelinnak nr.1 “Baravukha-3” Polatskis. See koosneb kahest õhutõrjerakettide diviisist, mis on relvastatud S-300PT SAM-süsteemidega (rügement sai 2016. aastal).

Üksus täidab lahinguülesandeid Polatski linnastu katmiseks, selle haldus- ja tööstuskeskused on Polatsk ja Navapolatsk.

New drills with the territorial defense – in Vitsiebsk and Homiel regions.
Preparations for new drills with military commissariats and territorial defense continue in Belarus.

Mobilization drills will be held in June in Vitsiebsk region. Their main purpose is to assess the level of readiness of military commissariats, state bodies and organizations to perform the assigned tasks.

During the drills, it’s planned to practice the transfer of military commissariats from peacetime to wartime, deployment of mobilization infrastructure, draft of conscripts and vehicles for additional staffing of commissariats. All military commissariats of Vitsiebsk region will be involved in the drills.

Such drills are held annually. For example, in 2023, mobilization drills were conducted with military commissariats of Minsk region, in 2022 – Homiel region.

Preparations are underway to conduct drills with the territorial defense in Rechytsa district (Homiel region). We wrote about possible drills in Rechytsa earlier.

Most likely, the drills will be held within the framework of the second stage of the inspection of the territorial defense of Homiel region. The approximate date of the drills is May-July.

We recall that since the beginning of the year, the territorial defense drills have been held (are currently being held) in four regions of Belarus:
• Minsk region – in Vileika district;
• Hrodna region – in Voranava district;
• Homiel region – in Rahachou and Karma districts.

In May, drills with the territorial defense will also be conducted in Mahiliou.

The Belarusian parliament on Wednesday voted to suspend the country's participation in the Conventional Forces in Europe treaty that once was a key security doctrine for the continent, a 1990 agreement that was abandoned last year by Russia.

The bill, introduced by authoritarian President Alexander Lukashenko earlier this month, could pave the way for Belarus — Russia’s ally in the war in Ukraine — to expand its military. Belarus lawmakers unanimously approved the bill calling for the treaty's suspension; Lukashenko now needs to sign the bill for it to become law.

The treaty, signed in 1990, places limits on tanks, combat vehicles, warplanes and heavy artillery that can be deployed in Europe. It aimed at keeping a military balance between the West and the countries that were part of the Cold War-era Warsaw Pact.

S-400 SAM systems in Belarus: who received the second divizion set?

In late March, we wrote about ambiguous statements of the commander of the 377th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment of the Belarusian Armed Forces (military unit 55719, Polatsk district) about the rearmament of the unit with the S-400 SAM systems. It was not quite clear from the statement of the officer whether the regiment had already been rearmed with the S-400 systems or was ready to be rearmed.

Later, in a story of the state media, it was stated unequivocally that the 377th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment had been rearmed with the S-400 SAM systems.

Earlier, officials of the Defense Ministry of Belarus repeatedly noted that Russia had transferred a regiment set of the S-400 systems to Belarus, i.e. two divizions. One divizion of the S-400 SAM systems was delivered to the 15th Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade in 2023. The transfer of S-400 to the air defense units of Belarus hasn’t been publicly reported later.

Back in August 2021, a divizion of the S-400 SAM system of the Russian Armed Forces arrived in Hrodna district to establish the so-called “combat training center” for joint training of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of Belarus and Russia. The divizion was stationed on the base of the 1st Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment of the Belarusian Armed Forces (Labna-Aharodniki, Hrodna district).

Given the recent statements about the rearmament, we may assume that the S-400 SAM divizion set mentioned above was transferred to the 377th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment. The Belarusian MoD hasn’t officially commented on the transfer of the S-400 systems to the regiment.

A Belarusian air defense unit was redeployed to the border with Russia.
According to our information, one of the units of the 740th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment* of the Belarusian Armed Forces was redeployed to Klimavichy district (Mahiliou region).

The military are deployed in the vicinity of Fiadotava Buda village (Halich village council), close to the border with Russia (Smolensk oblast). The distance from the settlement to the border is about 5 kilometers.

The purpose of the redeployment is unknown. There are no strategically important industrial facilities in Klimavichy district, which could be additionally covered by air defense means. There are no military facilities in the district.

The industry of the neighboring districts of Mahiliou region (Kastsyukovichy, Klichau, Cherykau, Krasnapollie and Khotsimsk) is mainly represented by light and food industry enterprises. The exceptions are the Belarusian cement plant in Kastsyukovichy and Krychautsementnoshifer (producing Portland cement).

We note that the main units of the anti-aircraft missile troops of the Belarusian Armed Forces are located in the western and central parts of Belarus. There are no anti-aircraft missile units in the east of Belarus, except for Babruisk, where the 147th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment (military air defense) is deployed.

Let’s suppose that due to the inability of the Russian air defense to completely prevent drone strikes (another confirmation of this is the strike on infrastructure objects in Smolensk oblast on the night of April 24), the Belarusian military are seriously concerned about covering the airspace in the east of Belarus. Probably, the 740th Regiment was sent to practice the fulfillment of tasks in the “new areas”.

It’s possible that the redeployment of air defense units to Klimavichy district has some other reason.

Earlier we reported about the redeployment of air defense units to Yelsk district to protect the Mazyr oil refinery. We still record activity of the Belarusian military in Yelsk and its vicinity.

* The 740th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment (military unit 15847) is located in Barysau and is part of the Northwestern Operational Command. The regiment is armed with the Osa-AKM SAM systems.
