The protestor who set himself on fire was distributing pamphlets titled “The True History of the World” and published an online manifesto where he explained why he was taking such an extreme act.
“My name is Max Azzarello, and I am an investigative researcher who has set himself on fire outside of the Trump trial in Manhattan.
This extreme act of protest is to draw attention to an urgent and important discovery:
We are victims of a totalitarian con, and our own government (along with many of their allies) is about to hit us with an apocalyptic fascist world coup.”

Officials at the press conference reported that around 1:30 PM EST, a man who has since been identified as Maxwell Azzarello, from St. Augustine, Florida, set himself on fire outside the courthouse, where former President Trump's trial is underway. Maxwell Azzarello walked into the park, opened a backpack, and threw paper pamphlets titled 'The True History of the World.' He published an online manifesto full of conspiracies, explaining why he was taking such an extreme act. Then, he poured a container of flammable liquid on himself. He is in critical condition but alive. His last post was singing "Start a F*cking Revolution.
https://twitter.com/MarioNawfal/status/ ... 8856316173Max Azzarello grew up in Long Island and worked for a wide range of organizations usually tied to political or community activism.
For the past year, his LinkedIn has listed him as a "Research Investigator," self-employed, and living in Florida.
Back in 2017, he worked for a rather unknown NGO called Strong Towns.
They claim to be an advocacy group for "sustainable urban planning" but are associated with several conspiracy theories, including "America's Growth Ponzi Scheme."
When he was hired at Strong Towns, he was interviewed and explained his passion for helping communities grow:
"It may not be apparent from the outside, but Strong Towns has some remarkable tools to help a small organization continually do so much. I’m an avid puzzler, so I especially look forward to the fun challenges that come with helping Strong Towns continue to grow."
