Brazil in flames: drug cartels wage war against the government

Brazil has plunged into chaos, with Rio de Janeiro turning into a war zone.

In just one hour, over 80 people — including civilians — were killed in fierce clashes between security forces and drug cartels.

Streets in the city’s northern districts are blocked by barricades and burning buses; cars are on fire, and gunfire echoes through the neighborhoods.

Cartels controlling up to 70% of Rio’s drug trade declared a “lockdown” in response to Operation Containment, which involves 2,500 police officers.

Authorities report that more than 80 militants have already been arrested. The gangs are using FPV drones carrying explosives and blocking exits from the districts.

Governor Cláudio Castro accused President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of refusing to deploy the military while Rio “drowns in fire and blood.”

The Trump Administration has made the decision to launch attacks against military installations inside Venezuela — which could be struck by air in a matter of days or even hours — with the intent of destroying military airbases and ports used by the Cartel of the Suns, a drug-trafficking organization the United States has said is led by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and run by top members of his Regime, sources with knowledge of the situation told the Miami Herald.

While sources declined to say whether Venezuelan President Maduro himself is a target of the upcoming strikes, one of them said his time is “running out.” “Maduro is about to find himself trapped and might soon discover that he cannot flee the country even if he decided to,” the source said. “What’s worse for him, there is now more than one general willing to capture and hand him over, fully aware that one thing is to talk about death, and another to see it coming.”
